He was a retired machinist, a veteran, and of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Merline Dodson Simmons; son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Vicki Simmons; granddaughter, Andria Simmons, all of Roanoke; brothers, Leonard Simmons, Burlington, N.C., Felix Simmons, Henderson, N.C.; sisters, Daisy Tate, Graham, N.C., Pearl Bowman, Burlington, N.C., Grace Shambley, Elon College, N.C., Gladys Page, Page Town, N.C., Francis Gilliam, Burlington, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 1995, with the Rev. Phillip L. Whitaker officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Good Samaritan Hospice. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
