Robert Colby & Lois McDonald's Images of America Magalia to Stirling City, by Arcadia Press, p. 14, 16: "Magalia Hall was built by Charles Bader, a prominent Magalia hotel keeper. He made it an adjunct to his hotel. One might call it the convention center of Magalia." Across the street were the Bader rental cottages. "The Bader Hotel offered Magalia's most luxurious accommodations. This was the third of three Bader Hotels, built in 1895, all of which were destroyed in fires. The hotel was patronized by mining engineers and speculators. Many came up from the hot, marlaria-prone valley towns for health reasons. There was no central heating, but hot water bottles came with the room as well as chamber pots. The usual facilities were up the small hill to the rear."
