Henry Bader was born at Magalia, in November 1853, and was 75 years old at the time of his death. As a young man he followed newspaper work, being employed by the “Sagebrush,” of Susanville, for several years, and later by the Oroville Mercury. From there he went to the San Francisco Chronicle, where he stayed until 1884, when he returned to Cherokee, assuming charge of the mercantile store and brewery on the death of his father. He had charge of the men’s clothing department for the Sterling Mercantile Company at Stirling City from 1912 to 1915, when he retired from business and moved to his ranch at Magalia but owing to ill health, he went to Sacramento a few months ago.

Mr. Bader leaves three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Emory and Mrs. Ida Heinrich of Oakland, and Mrs. Josephine Weaver of Sacramento; one brother, C.W. Bader, of Magalia, besides several nephews and nieces, and numerous friends n Butte County, to mourn his loss.

While he lived in Cherokee, he was supervisor of the fifth district of Butte County. He was a member of Table Mountain Masonic Lodge No. 124. The body will be cremated in Sacramento, although funeral arrangements have not been made.
