Mr. Garner was born at Burnetta February 1, 1872, being the son of the late William Smith and Margaret E. Jasper Garner. He was married to Miss Sarah L. Weddle in 1894 and six children were born to this union. Mrs. Weddle and two sons preceded him in death.
He was a man of fine Christian character and was a member of the Chesterview Baptist Church. He was a kind and loving father and a faithful friend. His gentle nature won for him countless friends.
Survivors include four children, Minnie Garner, Mrs. Thelma Turpin, Mrs. Elma Coner, and Tom Garner, of Nancy; four brothers, G.W. Garner of Windsor, N.M. Garner of Nancy, J.G. Garner of Cains Store, and C.A. Garner of Eli; 32 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Chesterview Baptist Church. Dr. R.F. Jasper and the Rev. Bert Whitaker officiated. Interment was in Chesterview cemetery.
