Edward H. Runk

Edward H. Runk, 91, of Littlestown, died Sunday, Feb 10, at UPMC Pinnacle, Hanover. He was the widower of Betty A. (Sterner) Runk who died in 1972.
Born Jan 18, 1928 in Lineboro, MD, Ed was the son of the late Harvey H. & Tillie (Berwager) Runk.
He grew up in the Black Rock area, the son of a tenant farmer. He remained a hard worker most of his life and retired from the Littlestown Hardware & Foundry in 1990 after 26 years of employment. He then worked part time at Weis Markets, retiring in 2014. He served in the U.S. Army as part of the Allied German Occupation Forces for 2 1/2 years before being honorably discharged in Oct 1948.
Surviving are his children: Dennis L. Runk of Hanover; Janet Smith of Hanover and David Runk of Littlestown; his 4 grandchildren: Allen Runk, Amanda Smith, Jessica Runk and Nathan Runk and his 8 great grandchildren.
Ed was predeceased by his granddaughter, Tanya Smith and his brother, Merle Runk.
Though Ed survived several health events over the years, he was able to pretty much function as he wanted for his first 90 1/2 years. His last 6 months saw significant deterioration with several stays at Hanover Hospital or Hanover Hall. Even so, he was able to live out most of his last few months at home under the watchful care of his son, David. The family would like to thank the personnel at Hanover Hospital and Hanover Hall for their care and attention.
Ed was a life member of Littlestown Fish & Game. He enjoyed boating and fishing and had a special fondness for food from McDonald’s and KFC. He was a proud Democrat for most of his adult life.
Funeral Service is Thursday, Feb. 14, at 11 A.M. at Little’s Funeral Home, Littlestown with The Rev. Sterling Fritz officiating. Viewing is Thursday 10-11 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment is in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown.
