Warren Rulien was born on October 23, 1919 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the son of Lawrence and Mary (Scheels) Rulien. He married Ione Loehnis on June 27, 1941, in Eau Claire with his grandfather performing the wedding ceremony.

Warren was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for service to his country during WW II. Information received on findagrave.com from Harald E.L. Prins suggested the following:
Pvt. Rulien served with the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Platoon of the 16th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division (the famous Big Red One), fighting in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, and so on. On the morning of D-Day, he landed on Omaha Beach. (See also Kaufman J.E., and Kaufman, H.W. The American GI in Europe in World War II: D-Day: Storming Ashore, Volume 3, pp. 323-324.)

Warren was employed at the Uniroyal Tire Company in Eau Claire for over 40 years. He enjoyed oil painting and received award-winning recognition when one of his paintings was published in a National Wildlife calendar.

Warren passed away on September 13, 1998 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He was survived by his wife; three children; four grandchildren; and a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of his life was held at his home. Interment later took place on March 29, 1999 at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
