Obituary for Larry D. Sims

Larry D. Sims, 76, of Paducah, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 8, 2013 surrounded by his family. Larry was a life-long passionate Believer in Jesus Christ. Over the years, he was a member of Cuba Church of Christ, Northside Church of Christ in Mayfield, Westport Road Church of Christ in Louisville and Broadway Church of Christ in Paducah KY.

Larry was a proud native of Cuba, KY and a graduate of Cuba High School in 1955. He attended Freed Hardeman University before graduating from Murray State University. He began his a career as a teacher in Graves County before serving Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance for 37 years. He retired as Vice President of Claims CPCU in Louisville where he lived before retiring to Paducah in 2012. Larry was a gracious and often anonymous giver. Beyond his love for Jesus Christ, his family and Kentucky Farm Bureau, loved University of Kentucky Basketball, St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and playing golf. He was a fantastic conversationalist and gracious hosts of many over the years.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie Bennett Sims; two sons, Kerry Sims and wife Sharon of Paducah, KY and Johnny Jackson of Mayfield, KY; daughter-in-law, Vicki Sims of Paducah, KY; four grandchildren, Adams Sims of Paducah, KY, Jacob Sims and wife Kara of Louisville, KY, Logen Thompson of Louisville, KY and Baylee Thompson of Paducah, KY; two sisters, Betty Wilson of Murphysboro, TN, Louise Harris and husband Mason of Cullman, AL; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding in death was one son, Larry Craig Sims; grandson, Andrew Sims; parents, Jesse Adlai Sims & Gladys Darnell Sims, one sister, Treva Edwards and one brother, Glen Sims.

Services will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Broadway Church of Christ with Dan Owen and Andy Clausen officiating. Burial will follow in the Cuba Church of Christ Cemetery in Cuba, KY. Friends may call Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah and after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
