Per his death certificate found on Ancestry.com: he was a son of William Bollinger and Matilda Quattlebaum, both born in Newark, New Jersey, and the husband of Bessie Quattlebaum Bollinger. His DOB is given as Jan. 1873. He was a retired office manager in an ice plant. He resided at 1220 Maple St. and died at Providence Hospital of lobar pneumonia, hypertensive heart disease, cerebral and general arteriosclerosis. The informant was Robt. S. Bollinger, Jr. of Columbia, S. C. Note: his mother's maiden name is incorrect on his certificate. It should read, Swaffield.

Conflict: his WWI Draft Registration Card gives his day of birth as 03 January in conflict with his grave marker. It is a legal document that he signed, therefore, that is the DOB used for this memorial.

Found in The State 24 June 1939: Robert Swaffield Bollinger, 1220 Maple street, died at 11 o'clock last night at the Providence hospital after an illness of several months. Mr. Bollinger was born in Columbia in January, 1873, and for years was connected with the Palmetto Ice company. He was a member of Shandon Baptist church and served as deacon for a number of years. In June, 1905, he married Miss Bessie Quattlebaum of Winnsboro. He is survived by his widow; one son, Robert Swaffield Bollinger, Jr., and two sisters, Miss Katherine C. Bollinger of Columbia and Mrs. Frederick C. Atkinson of Indianapolis.
