Found in The State 04 March 1923: In the death of Mrs. Matilda Lenoir Bollinger, the First Baptist church has lost one of its early and most devoted members. Mrs. Bollinger was born in Newark, N. J., March, 1846, and was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Swaffield. At the outbreak of the Confederate war, Mr. Swaffield and his son came to Columbia; later they were joined by other members of the family. The last to cross the line under flag of truce were Mrs. Bollinger, then a girl of 14 years of age, and her mother. In early girlhood Mrs. Bollinger was married to William Bollinger of Columbia. Although in frail health for a number of years, Mrs. Bollinger made many friends, who loved and valued this gentle Christian woman. Surviving Mrs. Bollinger are her three children, Miss Katherine C. and Robert L. Bollinger of this city, and Mrs. Fred C. Atkinson of Indianapolis, Ind.

She can be found on the 1880 US Census for Columbia, Richland, SC, living on Gates St. She is 32, Robert, 7, Kitty, 10, and Eloise, 2 months. She was born in NJ, as were both parents, the children were all born in S. C.

Note: William Bollinger's parents have memorials in the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. I have not found William. He is not listed in the Elmwood Cemetery books.
