Per her death certificate found on Ancestry.com: she was a daughter of William Bollinger and Matilda Swaffield. She was single. There is only a year of birth given as 1868. She was a music teacher. She resided at 1220 Maple Street and died at Columbia Hospital of uremia and myocardial failure (there is more on the certificate but it is faded and difficult to read). The informant was Mr. R. S. Bollinger.

Note: a family tree on Ancestry.com has posted her teaching certificate from Winthrop Training School, now Winthrop University. It is in the name Kittie Carolan Bollinger.

Found in The State 30 December 1951: Miss Katherine Carolan Bollinger, beloved Columbia city school music teacher for 53 years, died at the Columbia hospital last night. "Miss Kitty," as she was affectionately known by her many friends had been in failing health for some time. She was born in Columbia in 1868, the daughter of William and Matilda Swaffield Bollinger. She was the first honor graduate of the Columbia city public schools, and holder of the Peabody medal. She graduated from Winthrop college at the age of 16. "Miss Kitty" began her career as a music teacher in the Columbia public schools at the age of 17. This was her life work from which she retired in 1940. She was a member of the First Baptist church and a former Sunday school teacher. She is survived by a niece, Miss Carolan Atkinson of Indianapolis, Ind. and the following nephews, R. S. Bollinger of Columbia, and Fred, Jr., Robert and Bruce Atkinson of Indianapolis.
