John was born on May 21, 1921 in Zwolle, LA to Dora and Louise Garcia and passed away on December 6, 2013. He was a resident of Shreveport and a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. He was a member of Shreveport Petroleum Club, Elks Lodge # 122, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and a founding member St. Teresa Catholic Church. John proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army, fighting in the European Theatre campaigns of Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. He was wounded in action in France on August 29, 1944 and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon and 3 battle stars, the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Medal.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Michael and Kenneth Garcia; 1 sister, 4 brothers, 3 half sisters, and 3 half brothers. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Garcia; son, John T. Garcia; daughters, Raynette and Manuel Sepulvado, Rose Paddie, Theresa Hawkins and husband, Charles; 8 grand children; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Elsie
