William Oscar Whitaker, 66, of Route 1, Somerset, died last Saturday at a veteran's hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The son of the late Henry and Mary Parkey Whitaker, he was born February 18, 1891. He married Lydia Phelps in 1917 and 13 children blessed this marriage. One son preceded him in death.

Mr. Whitaker is survived by his wife; eight daughters, Mrs. Ruby Salmons, Somerset, Mrs. Mildred Michels, Ludlow, Mrs. Audria Neal, Lexington, Mrs. Helen Hargis, Mrs. Edith Harrison, and Mrs. Jo Ann Goodin, all of Norwood, Ohio, Mrs. Myrtle Mofield, Pleasant Ridge, Ohio, and Betty Whitaker, Somerset, Route 1; four sons, Edgar Whitaker, Cincinnati, Bobby Whitaker, Norwood, Ohio, Henry Whitaker, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Donald Whitaker, Pleasant Ridge, Ohio.

He is also survived by six sisters, Mrs. Masie Hessie, Somerset, Mrs. Ida McIntire and Mrs. Ada Whitaker, both of Squib, Mrs. Matilda Harris, Acorn, Mrs. Margaret Staroszik, Markleville, Indiana, and Mrs. Della Nicely, Sharonville, Ohio; two brothers, Harvey Whitaker, Anderson, Indiana and John R. Whitaker, Middletown, Indiana; and 19 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday in the New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Willie Randall and the Rev. Ollie Parkey conducted the services. Burial was in the Pine Thicket cemetery.
