H.G. Nowles [sic], 86, Dies Here Today
H.G. (Gaylord) Nowles, 86, 301 Main St., resident of this area for 55 years and retired businessman, died in a local hospital early Friday.
He had been ill several weeks. Mr. Nowles was born at Rensselear [sic], Ind., July 10, 1875. He was married to Mildred Fathing in Lyons in 1933.
The deceased came to Longmont in 1906 from Indiana where he had been a cabinet maker. Mr. Nowles taught woodwork courses in Erie schools for six years and then taught the same subject at Longmont High School for 14 years.
After retiring from school work he started a furniture manufacturing business in Meeker Park. Three years later he returned ot Longmont and started the Nowles Knotty Pine furniture business. He sold that business nine years ago and retired.
Mr. and Mrs. Nowles had been making their home at the Imperial Hotel, but he had been confined to a rest home and hospital for the past nine weeks. He held membership in the First Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mildred Nowles, Longmont, one daughter, Mrs. Dan (Jeannette) Barnsley, Allenspark, two sisters, Mrs. Floyd Wheeler, Flora, Inc.[sic], and Mrs. Grace Meyer, Gary, Ind., seven grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. Another daughter is deceased.
Time of funeral services will be announced later.
