Thomas was born on a farm south of Wymore,Gage County, Nebraska to John and Anna Roderick Humphreys. He attended Pleasant View, District 81 County School through the 8th grade and graduated from Wymore High School in 1931. In 1935 he married Ila Marie Zugmier and to this union three children were born. The family lived on the home farm until 1945 when they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and Thomas went to work for Gold & Company department store. He advanced to Stock Manager of the store. Gold's department store was sold to Brandies of Omaha and Thomas continued his career until he retired in 1978. Thomas and Ila spent their retirement years buying and selling antiques and traveling.
