He grew up in Chico California until his adolescent years, from which his family relocated to San Jose California. There he attended Pioneer High School where he met the beautiful young lady who would steal his heart and become his future wife - Mary Jean Hermanson. Paul and Mary dated throughout high school. Immediately following Paul's graduation he in listed into the United States Air Force (summer 1964) at the age of 17, just months before his 18th birthday. Paul was originally assigned to Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento California and then sent off to England for his first assignment.

In February 1968, Paul came back to the U.S., to his sweetheart Mary and they were married on February 10th, 1968 in San Jose California. They honeymooned in San Francisco, then took a flight to New York which took them off to England to begin their new life together. Together Paul and Mary lived in England for a little over 2 years.

England is were Paul and Mary started their life long friendship with fellow military friends Gary and Nancy Kingery. Paul and Mary started their family in late August of 1969 where their first daughter Barbara Ellen was born (August 29, 1969). A few months later, with Paul's mother Irene B. Allred and best friend's Gary and Nancy Kingery as witness', Paul and Mary were sealed in the London Temple for all eternity.

Paul brought Mary and Barbara back to Denver, Colorado to live with her parents and family as he was assigned to serve in the Viet Nam war. Paul served for 1 year and returned safely home. Paul was reassigned to Maine and brought his young family with him. Here in Maine they added to their family two more daughter Sarah Louise (April 25,1973) and Laura Irene (July 21, 1974). As with the military life the young family moved yet again to Albuquerque New Mexico. Here they would add to the family yet again, this time a boy, Robert Russell (February 11, 1978). A few years later they were on the move again and now found themselves in Guam. They lived there for 3 years then back to the U.S. ending up in Sacramento, California. This is where Paul and Mary would have their 5th and final child another son, Steven Christopher (September 28, 1980). In 1985 Paul would end his career with the U.S. Air Force, retiring his service of 21 years for his country in Civil Engineering.

Paul and Mary, with their family would live in Sacramento, California for the next 25 years. Paul was now working for the University of California of Davis. Paul worked at the UC Davis for 20 years, retiring in 2005. Paul and Mary packed up for one last move, taking with them their memories of the last several decade and now headed to Kanosh, Utah to their final assignment, retirement, building their home and enjoying a quieter way of life together. All though they missed their children and grandchildren, Paul and Mary made frequent trips to Sacramento to visit their family and even managed to steal a grandchild or two, or three at a time to bring back to Kanosh. This where he could instill in his grandchildren a love for Kanosh, a passion for hard work and family heritage.
