============
Sam was born to Moses and Annie Passmore Branscom on November 20, 1863, and died April 5, 1929 in Stone County. He never married. Sam's siblings were William, James Edmond, Andrew, Samuel, John, Levi, Malinda, Calvin, Eliza, Polly, and Thomas. It was reported that he was making Moonshine one day, (as did many other others around), when the U.S. Deputy Marshall rode up to his house. When Sam inquired as to what was wanted, the Marshall drew his gun and killed Sam in cold blood. It was said that he was a good man who helped family and friends. There is a Branscum Road in that area which may have been named after Sam.

The following from Lisa Lamb Franska: I am on Genealogy Bank and there are 3 different News Articles, it was rumored Sam was killed, one article was dated June 6, 1922, the Marshall's came to get him and entered his Cabin, they stated they thought they saw movement in bed, fired many rounds into the cabin, it caught on fire, they did nothing to put the fire out, Sam claimed he was within 600 ft. of his Cabin and he shot back, barely grazing an Officer, he was shot in the leg, went in hiding, surrendered later after his Brother's convinced him to do so.
