Albert "Abie" Adams, 99, of Centerville passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center.

Abie was born on October 18, 1914 in Missouri to Frank & Pauline(Guzzi)Adams. He married Mary Raskie. To this union were three children. Abie played the trumpet in high school and throughout his 20's had a local band called the "Melody Boys" in which he played quitar. Abie spent three years in the Iowa National Guard where he became a Staff Sergeant. He was self-employed the majority of his life. Everyone will remember him for owning Adams Bowl for over 40 years. At one point in his earlier years he owned and operated 3 business at the same time, a restaurant, tavern and a gas station.

In his spare time Abie enjoyed the outdoors. Fishing and hunting were some of his fondest times he spent with friends and family. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends. Caribbage and conversation were a must in Abie's world. Later on in life he enjoyed making the trip to the casino now again. Abie was a very liked/loved man throughout the community. The man born Albert Adams was mostly referred to as Pops, Gramps or simply Abie. He always had a smile on his face for you, unless you left the door or a window open. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Survivors include, wife, Mary Adams of Centerville, son, Ron Adams of Centerville, four grandchildren: Tammy(Wade)Burgher of Lake of the Ozarks, Terry Smothers of Des Moines, Wade Adams of Centerville, Mary Jo Adams-Delacruz of Ames, nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Adams, daughter, June(Adams)Moore and two siblings: Mary Hobart and Phillip Adams.

Celebration of Life Service will be 2 pm Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Dittmer officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior from 1-2 pm. Inurnment will be in Oakland Cemetery at a later date. Memorials my be given to the family.
