Percy was attached to the Tenth CO, 4th Regiment, Marine Barracks, Monte Cristi, DR after his training. On 7 Sept. 1921 Percy was shot by a fellow marine. The circumstances of the shooting were not given in the records. He died at 2:50 PM on 7 Oct 1921 in the Field Hospital in Santiago, Dominician Republic. The other Marine, James A. Norris, was held for General Court Marshal but was eventually released.
Percy's body was returned to the United States and to Pistol Thicket by the government. His brother, Madison "Pat" Pace applied for a military gravestone in 1932 which was shipped to him and erected in the Mt. Rose Cemetery.
