Ward – Louis Roy 1906 – 1975

Louis Roy Ward, 68, of 2238 W. Nicolet Ct., Kingspark, Peoria, Illinois.
Services were held at 11 a.m. March 13, 1975 at Cumerford – Endsley Memorial Home, Peoria Illinois. The Rev. R. L. Goode of Christian Assembly Church officiated. Burial was at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens with military rights by the Naval Reserve.

He was born in Peoria, May 19, 1906, a son of Guy Newton Ward and Josephine Messersmith (Mesterschmidt) Ward, and married Selma Michael Carter November 27, 1953. She died in New Orleans, Louisiana, June 21, 1965. He had lived at the trailer Park for three years and at the current address for the last year prior to his death.

Surviving were one daughter, Mrs. Ira (Jackie) Whitman, with whom he made his home; one brother, Benjamin of Peoria; one sister, Mrs. Helen Argo, also of Peoria, and a number of nieces and nephews. One brother, George, preceded him in death.

An Employee of Caterpillar Tractor Co. for more than 35 years, he worked in the special attachments department prior to retirement, May 31, 1971. A Navy veteran of WW II and the Korean War, he served aboard the U.S.S. Elliott and the Balkan.

Mr. Ward was a member of the Navy Club of Peoria, Ship 34; Amvets, Post 64; Peoria Post 2, American Legion; South Peoria Memorial post, 8662, VFW; and was a past president of Memorial Association Inc.; and a member of the Veterans Assistance Commission for Peoria County. He was also a member of Illinois Loge 263, AF&AM.
