Guy N Ward 71 Military Funeral Rites Saturday

Funeral Services for Guy N born Sep 4, 1878. He was the son of William and Mary Taft Ward and first married Josephine Messersmith Jan 25, 1905. After her death in 1928, he later married Mabel Sewer Ward 71, of 2134 South Jefferson Avenue, a formert employee of the Peoria Park board who died at his home at 4 AM Thursday after a prolonged illness. Services will be held at 3 PM Saturday at the Frank M. Endsley funeral home, 601 Stanly street.

The Rev H. H. Schmidt of the Seventh Day Adventist church will officiate and military rites will be in charge of the Spanish American War veterans. Burial will be in Parkview cemetera. Friends may call at the funeral home this afternoon and evening. Mr ward was born at Mason City Sep. 4 1878. He was a son of William and Mary Taft Ward and first married Josephine Messersmith Jan. 25, 1905. After her death in 1928 he later married Mabel Sawer, March 22, 1930. A veteran of the Spanish-American war, Mr. Ward enlisted in Peoria April 28, 1898 and received his discharge in August of that year. He was a past commander of camp 49, Spanish-American War veterans and was a member of the Howett Street Christian church. Ill health forced him to retire last year from his work with the park board.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Louis R. Ward of Peoria and Benjaman Ward of Iowa City, Ia.; one stepdaughter, Helen Argo of Peoria; one brither, Roy Ward, also of Peoria; eight grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. One son George H. Ward is dead.

Note: In 1940, Guy was working as a watchman for the Peoria Park District..
In 1912 Guy was working as a picman for the TP&W RR and live at 1429 Howett


Memories of Georgia Ward Neal: Grandfather Ward (Guy) and the second grandmother Ward lived on Jefferson Street in Peoria, Illinois. He worked at Proctor Center as a night watchman. When he died,she (Mabel) moved to Lincoln Avenue. She lived there with her daughter Helen Argo until her death.. Grandmother Ward (Mabel) was a good cook. She made fruit cake at Christmas time. she would put wine in it. Grandfather Ward (Guy) loved to slip some of the wine when Grandmother was not looking. He like to tease her. She would cook big meals for the whole family on holidays, Always had Chrismas Eve as the day to open gifts and have a big meal.
