William Henry Wayland of Bluefield, West Virginia, died Wednesday, September 8, 1971, at his home at the age of 85. Born in Madison County he was the son of the late Fielding H. and Anna E. Carpenter Wayland. He was a retired electrical supervisor for the Norfolk and Western Railway, having retired in 1958. Mr Wayland was the co-founder of Richardson and Wayland Electrical Company in Roanoke.

A resident of Bluefield since 1920, he was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Bluefield and Lakeland Masonic Lodge and Pithian Lodge in Roanoke.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Celia Appling Wayland in 1960 and a son, Lloyd Wayland in 1945. Survivors include a son, Richard F Wayland of Bluefield, West Virginia; two sisters: Mrs. Marvin B Suddith of Aroda and Mrs. Annie B Broyles of Brandy Station, Virginia.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield with the Rev. Paul Houston officiating. Burial was in the Monte Vista Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eugene Jones, Richard J. Wood, M. P. Meachum, Barron Cornett, Don N. Kersey, and Jim E. Pritchett.
