The daughter of Willis Fann and Laura Augusta Goin, Ruby was married to Clarence M. "Army" Armstrong, Sr. They were the parents of 1 child, but later divorced.

Ruby worked as an inspector at Olin Corporation in East Alton, Madison County, Illinois. She was employed there for 20 years and retired from the company in 1971.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Wood River.

Ruby died at Eldercare of Alton following a long illness. At the time of her death, she was 79 years, 3 months and 11 days old.

She was survived by 1 son, Clarence M. "Army" Armstrong and his wife of Wood River, Illinois; 2 granddaughters and 2 grandsons; 3 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Herman Fann of McLeansboro, Illinois.

No visitation or services took place. Ruby's body was donated to the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Gray Funeral Home in Wood River was in charge of arrangements.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the First Christian Church of Wood River.
