The only child of Clarence M. Armstrong, Sr. and Ruby E. Fann, "Army" served in the United States Navy. He married (Living) Stewart on 15 Oct 1955 in Wood River, Madison County, Illinois. They were the parents of 4 children.

Army worked in sales for many years. He spent most of his career with Midwest Carpet.

Army suffered a variety of serious health problems during his later years. He died at Eunice Smith Nursing Home where he had been a patient for a matter of days. At the time of his death, he was 84 years, 2 months and 8 days old.

He was survived by his wife; 2 daughters, (Living) Roff and her husband of St. Louis, Missouri, and (Living) Marburger of Franklin, Tennessee; 2 sons, (Living) Armstrong of St. Louis, and (Living) Armstrong and his wife of Anthem, Arizona; and 8 grandchildren.

Army was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. on 06 Nov 2013 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, Illinois. Services took place there at 7 p.m. that evening, featuring touching presentations by several of his grandchildren, children and friends. Private funeral services were conducted the following morning, and burial was at Woodland Hill Cemetery.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to BJC Hospice in lieu of flowers.
