Flora Mary (Blum) Welch, 70, of 22 Clay Sweet in Dansville, died unexpectedly Wednesday, August 28, 1996 at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester.

Flora was born May 12, 1926 in Dansville, the daughter of the late Walter J. and Marie (Leven) Blum. She was married April 30, 1949 in St. Mary's Church in Dansville to John J. Welch, who predeceased her on November 18, 1975.

She was a graduate of Dansville Central School and attended St. Mary's School of Nursing from 1945 to 1948. Flora received her nursing degree in June of 1948 and became a Registered Nurse.

She had been employed as a Registered Nurse at the old Dansville Memorial Hospital and Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital for 32 years, where she retired from in 1986 as the Utilization Coordinator. She was employed by Preferred Care of Rochester from 1986 until the present as a Clinical Quality Coordinator.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dansville, where she served on the Parish Council. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Clara Barton Chapter No. 1 of the American Red Cross and the Board of Directors of the Dansville Day Care Center. She was also a member of the Women's Civic Club, Mother's Circle, and Today's Widow, all of Dansville.

In addition to her husband, Flora was predeceased by her brother, William Blum, on June 6, 1972.

She is survived by her seven children, Marie (Robert) Spendlove of Rochester, Michael (Sue) Welch of Ithaca, Thomas (Sarah) Welch of Rochester, and Margaret Mary (Michael) Wilcox, Anne (Terrence Sr.) Murphy, William (Lorri) Welch, and Robert Welch and Becky Holbrook, all of Dansville; eight grand-children, Jessica Lynn and Jeffrey John Welch of Ithaca, and Terrence Jr., Matthew and Christopher Murphy, Bridget and John Wilcox, and Cori Alyssa Welch, all of Dansville; and two sisters, Eliza (Betty) and James Derrick of Niceville, Fla., and Ruth (Robert) Hart of Dansville.

Friends called Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Chamberlin Funeral Home Inc., 73 Main Street, Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday at 2 p.m in St. Mary's Church with Rev. Stephen Kraus officiating. Burial was in Greenmount Cemetery in Dansville.
