SAMUEL DAVID ALEXANDER

Samuel David Alexander, 72, of 104 Buck Run Lane, Burnsville, Virginia, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 at his residence.

He was born September 25, 1940 in Waynesboro, Virginia, the son of the late Charles A. Alexander and Earline Page Alexander.

He was married to, Joyce L. Alexander, his wife of 50 years, whom he married on September 29, 1962.

Mr. Alexander was a retired Operating Engineer. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 77. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting & fishing. He loved mechanical work and motor sports. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce L. Alexander of Burnsville; two children, Chris Marie Goldsmith & husband Adam of Sykesville, Maryland and William Scott Alexander & wife Kim of Burnsville; five grandchildren, Paige & Chad Goldsmith of Sykesville, Jordan & David Alexander of Burnsville, Meghan Brown of Burnsville; a brother, Charles E. Alexander & wife Betty of Burnsville; a sister, Elfrieda McGee & husband Robert of Burnsville; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wade M. Alexander.

A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Monday, September 9, 2013 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Lorrie Aikens officiating. A private interment will in Waynesboro at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Burnsville Volunteer Fire Department Building Fund, 8601 Muddy Run Lane, Burnsville, Virginia 24487.
