Charles S. Werner

THOMASVILLE – Charles S. Werner, 80, of Thomasville RD 1, died at 10:20 a.m. Monday at Manor Care North after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Treva E. (Albright) Werner, to whom he was married for 53 years.
The service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Jacob's (Stone) Union Church, Glenville RD 2. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Sauter-Irwin Funeral Home, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Werner was born March 17, 1915, in Codorus Township. He was the son of the late Charles Q. and Mary Jane (Stiffler) Werner.
He was general sales manager and nutritionist for Pennsylvania Harvester Inc., retiring after 17 years of service. Prior to that he was a salesman for Farmers Marketing Supply Co. of London, England, chief herdsman for University of Maryland, and farm manager for Benny Goodman in Berks County, Millarden Farms in Lebanon County and McLaughlin Farms in Westmoreland County.
A 1932 graduate of the former Codorus Township High School, he was a graduate of Penn State University. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, life member of Cattleman's Club, and charter member and advisory board member of the former Young Handicapped Peoples Club. He was chairman of the original board of directors of Margaret E. Moul Cerebral Palsy Home Inc., where he was a member of the auxiliary, Heritage Club and the corporation.
A lifelong member of St. Jacob's (Stone) United Church of Christ in Glenville, he was a Sunday School teacher for Trinity (Roth's) United Church of Christ in Spring Grove. He was a member of the planning board and Justice of the Peace in Jackson Township.
Mr. Werner also is survived by two sons, Charles W. Werner of Bloomsburg and Thomas P. Werner of York; a daughter, Leah E. Werner of Margaret E. Moul Cerebral Palsy Home Inc.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Violet Shaffer of Seven Valleys, Saranda Miller of California and Anna Miller of Spring Grove.
Mr. Werner was preceded in death by a son, David E. Werner, who died in 1949.
Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. George O. Butz.
