Clair L. Harnish
Clair L. Harnish, 87, formerly of Alexandria Star Route but most recently residing in Petersburg R. D., died at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, 1977, at the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital. Huntingdon.
He was born May 3, 1890, in Alexandria Star Route, the son of Joshiah David and Ida Drucilla (Hileman) Harnish. He married Elsie Jane Siegel on May 6, 1915. She preceded him in death on April 27, 1949.
Surviving is one daughter. Mrs. John (Florence) Hammond, of Petersburg R. D. 1, with whom he had been making his home for the past ten years. Another daughter, Katherine, preceded him on Sept. 3, 1944, and one son, Lloyd, preceded him on May 7. 1%8.
Seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive.
Also surviving are one brother, Lynn H. Harnish of Alexandria and Sebring, Fla.. and one sister, Mrs. Lillian B. Moore of Alexandria. Two brothers preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Christ Reformed Church. UCC, of Alexandria. and an active member of that church until his health failed. A lifelong farmer in Morris Township, he was a member of the Hartslog Valley Grange. He was educated in the area public schools, attended Juniata College, played in the Alexandria Band, and served on the school board for a number of years.
Funeral services will be held al 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20, from the Robert I. Grove Funeral Home. Alexandria. The Rev. Paul J. Bailey and the Rev. Dr. C. B. Marsteller will officiate, and interment will be made in the Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday from noon until the hour of the service.
