Lydia Johnson, daughter of John Johnson and Lydia Johnson.

Lydia married 1) Samuel Newell/Newhall in March 1808 in Thompson, Windham, Connecticut. The announcement was found in a marriage column in the National Aegis, page 3, on 9 Mar 1808. The application date of 5 May 1808 was found in Worcester, Massachusetts marriage records.

Presumably Samuel died, leaving Lydia with her small daughter, Lucy J. Newell. Lydia married 2) Charles H. Dresser, son of John Dresser and Juliana Hurlburt, 19 Dec 1818 in Worcester Co., Massachusetts. They were the parents of two girls; Achsah Washburn Dresser (married Phineas Bartlett) and Charlotte E. Dresser (married Parley Derby Houghton).

Charles died after 2 Nov 1830, when he was discharged from the Army at Ft. Wood, New York (presumably on 20 Nov 1831 in Boston, at the House of Industry.)

Ft. Wood was a star-shaped fortification on Bedloe's Island (now Liberty Island). By the time it was chosen for the statue, the base was disused and its walls were used as the distinctive base for the Statue of Liberty.

Note: The cemetery has no record of Lydia having been buried here. She had lived with her daughter and family for decades, and it is likely she is buried with her grandchildren.
