Lucy J. Newell, daughter of Samuel Newell and Lydia Johnson, married Joseph Patch, Jr. on 22 Feb 1830 in Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts.

They were the parents of seven children;
Lucy Jane, Charles Newell, George A., Ellen Elizabeth, Charlotte Aurelia, Joseph Whipple and Adeline Sophia Patch. Only four lived to maturity; Lucy, Charles, George and Joseph. The girls each died near the age of 17, George died at age 27.

Joseph died on 15 Oct 1842 in Vernon, Windham, Vermont. Lucy and the children went back to Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts and lived near her mother and sisters. Soon after the death of her daughter, Ellen, Lucy took the rest of the family and went west, stopping in Clayton Co., Iowa.

Lucy married Job Evans 25 Apr 1858 in Clayton Co., Iowa. They lived in Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. As of 22 June 1890, they were living in West Union, Custer, Nebraska. The family Bible gave the year of her death as 1890, so she had to have died after 22 June 1890 and before 31 Dec 1890.

About her photo--
Lucy J. Newell - early 1840s, probably before the death of her husband. If a woman was in mourning, she didn't wear a white collar. The photo is owned by Saralee Haskins, Lucy's great great granddaughter, who is now deceased. Saralee's grandfather, Murray Wilson Patch, identified the photo as being his grandmother, Lucy.
