Funeral services for Thomas J. Christensen, 62, known in the Carroll County area as Jake Berns, is pending
at the Huffman Funeral Home here. Mr. Christensen died Wednesday at the Veterans Hospital, Minneapolis.

He was born May 7, 1902, in Illinois and lived much of his life in the Glidden vicinity. For the last several years he had been a resident of Pierre, S. D. He was a member of St. John's American Lutheran Church, Glidden.

Among survivors are his wife, the former Jeanette Butterfield, Pierre; a daughter, Mrs. Bernie Young, of Portland, Ore.; his step-mother, Mrs. Henry D. Berns of Lidderdale and several step-brothers and sisters.

Final rites for Thomas J. Christensen, 62, Pierre, S.D., known here as Jake Berns, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's American Lutheran Church in Grant Township. The Rev. Henry N. Hansen, Elk Horn, former pastor of the church, officiated. Organists were Leona Berns and Mrs. Kenneth Best. The hymns "Rock of "Ages" and "Asleep in Jesus" were sung by a men's quartet.

Pallbearers were Donald Berns, Jerry Wilson, Richard Rabb, Junior Beyerink, John Berns and Jack Schmeiser.

Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery, Glidden, where military honors were given by Merle Hay Post No. 386 of Glidden. Arrangements were in charge of the Huffman Funeral Home of Carroll.

Mr. Christensen, former resident of this area, died Aug. 5, at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.
