S. S. Barnhill Of Hurdland Dies Tuesday
Funeral services for Sherman S. Barnhill, 75, of Hurdland, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 in Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina, The Rev. Dr. Dale Jorgenson of Kirksville will conduct the services. Burial will be in Linville cemetery in Edina.
Mr. Barnhill died Tuesday morning unexpected following an apparent heart attack while on business in Edina.
Born Nov. 20, 1897 [sic] in Knox county, he was the son of Solomon and Mary Elijah Garland Barnhill. On June 28, 1919 in Edina he married Grace Geneva Patton who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mary Darlene Hickman of Huston, Texas; two sons, Floyd Raymond Barnhill of Chicago, Ill., and Sherman S. Barnhill, Jr. of Aurora, Ill; two grandsons, Terry Hickman and Steve Barnhill; one granddaughter, Randi Kaye Roseke; three great-granddaughters; one sister, Mrs. James C. (Julia) Lorey of south of Edina and two brothers, Joe Barnhill of Oakdale, Calif., and Thomas J. Barnhill of Knoxville, Ia.
He was preceded in death by two infant sisters.
Mr. Barnhill was a retired rural mail carrier and a lifelong resident of Knox county.
He was a member of the Missouri Rural Carriers and the Edina Christian Church.
Bearers will be Archie Hall, William Golden, Clarence Sleeth, Kenneth Schempp, Lee Shouse and Joe Muir.
Honorary bearers will include H. A. Upshaw, Hurdland postal employees and members of Mr. Barnhill's Sunday school class.
