Seth Griffith Hyland Jr. was the son of Seth Griffith Sr. & Susan (a.k.a. "Susannah") (Cork) McCawley Hyland (a.k.a. "Highland). Seth Jr. grew up in the Jerome Township, Union County, OH, village of Jerome (formerly known as Frankfort) helping on his father's small family farm and with his father's pottery business. On January 12, 1892, Seth Jr. married Miss Marietta "Mary" E. Latimer and by 1900 the couple was living on a 35-acre farm in Concord Township, Delaware County, OH. By 1930 Seth Jr. and Mary had returned to the village of Jerome and Seth listed his occupation on the 1930 Federal Census as "carpenter." Seth Jr. and Mary parented 6 children between the years of 1893 and 1905: Raymeth "Ray" P. Hyland, George Ulysses Hyland, Bertha J. Hyland, Lydia M. Hyland, Maggie M. Hyland, and Harold Griffith Hyland.
