Emma lost her Mother as a 2 year old. Her Father never re-married, so her older siblings often took the role as care taker when she was young. She lost her youngest sister to a botched abortion as a teenager.

She was married to John Giedd. They were blessed as parents to 5 children.

My Grandma Dorothy said Emma struggled with being ill a lot of the time. She would spend a lot of time in bed. She was admitted to the State Hospital in Yankton where she died. Family lore indicates it was a Suicide....either via jumping through a window or hanging.

Her young family persevered. Her Husband also never remarried so the younger kids grew up without a Mom and not a lot of involvement from Dad as he was farming to support the kids.
