Messrs. George M. Russum and Henry R. Lewis, attorneys, recently filed a bill in circuit court asking that a divorce amensa et thora be granted to Mrs. Sarah E. Walters, wife of John S. Walters, of the First district. The bill stated that Mr. and Mrs. Walters were married in 1854, and that they have lived in this county since 1870. They have several grown children. The bill alleged that Walter's conduct was brutal and that the plaintiff's life was in danger, and to escape his vicious practices she left him. On the 13th of February Judge Robinson issued an order requiring Walters to pay plaintiff $5 weekly pending litigation. Several days ago Mr. James N. Todd, counsel for Walters, filed a bill in which all charges of bad conduct are denied, and stating that the defendant's property would soon be totally exhausted if the $5 weekly alimony should continue. Efforts are being made to compromise without further litigation. If this is not done the testimony will be written out and submitted to the Judges, when the case will be finally disposed of.
