Jesse Dowdy, 77 of Moss Point passed away September 26, 2013. He was born in the spring of 1936 in Columbia, MS to the late Mr. Jesse Paul Dowdy and Mrs. Ava Alexander Dowdy. He served his country proudly in the United States Army where he served in Okinawa Japan and Korea. He retired from Ingalls Shipyard after 40 years of service as a Machine Expediter. He was also a Mason with the Moss Point Lodge# 202. He was a founding member of Grace Baptist Church. Mr. Dowdy enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his wife Dora Lee Dowdy, sons Gary Dosher and Terry Wayne Dosher, his parents, and siblings Dorothy Waltman, Polly Smith and James Dowdy.
He leaves cherished memories to his son Dee Dee (Debbie) Dosher and daughter Debbie (Don) Knowles. He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren Terry (Lynne) Dosher, Nikki (Dustin) Countryman, Kelsey Knowles, Garrett Knowles, Stacy Shagory and Aimee (Michael) Pruitt. Mr. Dowdy also leaves three great grandchildren, Brayden Dosher, Sierra Byrd, Alyssa Countryman, Noelle and Drew Shagory, Annaliegh Pruitt, nephews Robert (Dee Dee) Dowdy and James Edward (Skeeter) Dowdy, a niece Glenda (Stanley) Smith and numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Mr. Dowdy will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Heritage Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with John Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Serene Memorial Gardens.
