John P. Fritz Sr., 79, of Linden, N.J., passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009, in Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, N.J.
Mr. Fritz was born in Wilkes-Barre, but resided in Linden, N.J., for the past 46 years. He was employed by the N.J. Transit and The Central Railroad of New Jersey as a locomotive engineer for 35 years. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served from 1948 until 1952.
Mr. Fritz was a member of the "Chosen Few of N.J," Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 102, Veterans of Foreign Wars Cranford Post 335, Elder and Deacon of the Linden Presbyterian Church, where he was active with its "Mission Project," a member of the Linden Intrafaith Council for more than 10 years and was a former "Linden Citizen of the Year."
He was predeceased by his wife, Joan B. (Wosniak) Fritz, who passed away on October 13, 2007; his son James B. Fritz, who died October 2, 1995; brothers Thomas, Nathan, Robert, Eugene, William and Edward; sister Lucy. He is survived by his son Dr. John P. Fritz Jr. and his wife, Cherie.
Visiting hours will be in the Werson Funeral Home, 635 N. Wood Ave., Linden, N.J., on Tuesday, from 6 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Linden Presbyterian Church, Orchard Terrace, Linden, N.J. Interment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery, Clark, N.J.
