Edward H. Fritz, 76, of Ashley, died Tuesday at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Dorrance Township.

Born Jan. 5, 1921 in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Nathan and Catherine Price Fritz.

He resided in Ashley most of his life and served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church of Ashley.

He was employed as a miner by the Glen Alden Coal Co., and later by the Jersey Central Railroad, at the Ashley Shops. He was last employed by the J.B. Post. Co., Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Betty Mae Engle, in 1996; brothers, Robert and Nate.

Surviving are daughters, Lucy Kitzmiller, Wapwallopen; Betty Jean Fritz, Nanticoke; a son, Edward H. Fritz Jr., Buttonwood, Hanover Township; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucy Azain, New Brunswick, N.J.; Martha Dubroski, Rahway, N.J.; Catherine Titus, Baltimore, M.D.; Bessie Connole, Detroit; brothers, Thomas, Dunmore; John, Linden, N.J.; Ronald, Toms River, N.J.; Willard, Ashley; William, Lee Park, Hanover Township.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Graham-McCune Funeral Home, 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountaintop, with the Rev. Harriet Santos, pastor of the Centenary United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
