Betty Mae Fritz of Coalville Street, Ashley, died Tuesday morning at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following a brief illness.
Born March 14, 1925, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mildred Gill Engle.
She attended Wilkes-Barre schools and lived in Ashley most of her life.
She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Ashley, and was employed by the General Cigar Co.
She and her husband, Edward, would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on June 30.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Benjamin Engle, in 1990.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughters, Betty Jean Fritz, at home; Lucy Kitzmiller, Wapwallopen; a son, Edward, Buttonwood, Hanover Township; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. William (Shirley) Fritz, Hanover Township; brothers, William Engle, Nanticoke; Thomas Engle, police chief of Ashley; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley, with the Rev. Harold Wheeler officiating.
Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
