The Bowman home building that exists today was likely constructed between 1815 and 1830. The house style, woodwork, nails, hardware, and construction techniques are of this period and the wood work is especially typical of these years. The house was constructed by Sarah's youngest son, George (born c1782). While we can not fix the home construction date, George married Sallie Hill Robards, a native of the area, in 1816. It seems probable that George built the house when he married and moved into it leaving his mother in the adjoining original family dwelling.

George Bowman and Sallie (RoBards) Bowman had 5 children but only Charles Edwin Bowman born in 1817 and Sallie E. Bowman (1830) had heirs and were the only children to survive their mother's death in January 1858.
In the 1820 census they reported 29 slaves; in 1830 census 28 slaves; and in 1839 23 slaves. While the 1820 and 1830 census identified George as the head of the household (since it was customary to list a male as head of the household), his mother likely was the owner of these slaves
Located about 100 yards northeast of the house is a marble obelisk. On the obelisk are the names of 13 persons assumed to be buried in the immediate area. Included are the matriarch, Sarah Bowman (died 1839), Sallie RoBards Bowman (the wife of George Bowman; died 1858), two related adults, and 9 children and grandchildren. The last buried there was George and Sallie Bowman's daughter, Sallie E. Bowman (married first to a Harrison and then to George Williams). She died in April 1858.
The burial site of George Bowman is unknown. He died in 1864
George Bowman died in 1864 and left the property totally almost 1,000 acres to his son Charles Edwin Bowman (1716-1888). The inheritance also include the plantation home, slaves, cash, notes, chattels, and personal estate. He also left to his granddaughters slaves and land including land in Missouri. Upon Charles Edwin Bowman's death in 1888, the land was inherited by his daughters, Georgia E. and Wilmoth Bowman. The land remained in the Bowman family until Georgia and Wilmoth Bowman sold it to J. B. and Henry Ruble in 1918.
