Enlisted under Capt. Clough Shelton, Col. Stevens, General Scott's Brigade; battle of Germantown; from there to winter quarters at Valley Forge; from there was sent to the small village Penny Packd; in scrimmage with the British he and 14 others were taken prisoner of war; by way of Philadelphia to New York. He was prisoner when battle happened at Monmouth; rejoined regiment at Brunswick and was at battle of Stoney Point. He continued as a private soldier for three years. At the age of 70 he was allowed a pension and after his death, his widow, Barsheba, was allowed his pension. She died Oct. 6, 1860.
