Professional Racecar Driver. He was a four-time veteran of the Indianapolis 500 but never won the race. He raced in 1951, 1952, 1956, and 1961. In 1951 his automobile had rear axle problems; thus, he was dropped from the race. In 1953 while practicing, he crashed and burned his automobile and it could not be repaired before the race. He had two Top Ten finishes, ninth in 1952 and tenth in 1956. After 1956, he did not return to the Indianapolis 500 until 1961, when he left the race with engine problems. He was the 1946 and 1947 Midwestern Dirt Track Racing Champion. Besides racing cars, he was an accomplished accordion player, restaurant proprietor, and 35-year employee of the Ransburg Corporation, including duty as a plant manager. He earned two Bronze Stars during World War II.
