Indiana State Board of Health Certificate of Death No. 016220 for Franklin, Johnson County records Marie G. Allen, an 88-years-old widowed white female, died about 7:56 a.m. on 21 May 1998 at Universal Health Care Center in Franklin, due to "Ateriosclerotic Heart Disease." She was the daughter of Roy Griffith, and Della Dugan. Her daughter Barbara Mitchell was the informant. Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Johnson County on 26 May 1998, Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Homes, in charge.

Marie G. Allen

Trafalgar area resident Marie Griffith Allen died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at Universal Health Care in Franklin. She was 88.

Mrs. Allen was born January 23, 1910, in Indianapolis to Roy and Delia Dugan Griffith.

She and Roy W. Allen were married March 4, 1929, in her grandmother's home in Nineveh. He died October 25, 1948.

Mrs. Allen was graduated from Franklin High School in 1928 and attended the Arthur Jordon Conservatory of Music in Indianapolis.

She was a homemaker. Mrs. Allen was a charter member of Fairhaven Christian Church near Trafalgar and taught Sunday school there for 45 years and had a perfect attendance record.

Mrs. Allen also was a piano teacher for 70 years, retiring just a year ago. She was a church organist at Fairhaven Christian Church for 43 years.

She was the first woman school bus driver in Indiana, serving Nineveh schools for 25 years. Mrs. Allen drove a church bus for 40 years.

From 1946 until 1980, she helped raise more than 60 foster children.

Mrs. Allen had donated a lake and acreage for Allendale Camp in Johnson County.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Mitchell of Trafalgar and Cheryl Christen of Greenwood; three sons, Robert Allen of Milligan, Tennessee, Larry Allen of Sarasota, Florida and John Allen of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a foster niece.

The Reverend Steve Fair and Reverend Jeff Wise led a service Tuesday, May 26, at Fairhaven Christian Church.

Burial was in Franklin's Greenlawn Cemetery.

Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin was in charge of arrangements.
