Elizabeth Jane (Gilcrest) James was the daughter of Thomas Coscory Gilcrest and Eleanor Guthrie. She married Benjamin F. James on Dec. 22, 1868 in Marshall County, Illinois. Benjamin died in Texas in 1922. Elizabeth moved with her son Leroy G. James to Colorado. They had a dairy there. On the evening of Sept.9, 1933 there was a horrible flood. Elizabeth and her grandson Benjamin Guthrie James both drowned. The house was swept away. The family took shelter in the barn. Everyone survived except for Grandmother James and little Benny. I found articles about the flood in The Denver Post newspaper and The New York Times. Thank you to the Columbine Genealogical & Historical Society for posting the information about these interments.
