Richard graduated from Kansas State University in 1964 and the University of Kansas Medical School in 1968. He served in the US Army Medical Corps from 1967 to 1978. He was honorably discharged as a lieutenant colonel.
From 1978 to 1998, "Dr. A." was the director of the respiratory department at Bay Harbor Hospital which was located in Harbor City, California. His private practice specialized in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease.
Richard married Ann Flynn on December 29, 1977 in Littleton, CO. They had five children together, four sons and one daughter.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings: John, Regina, Irene, Steve, Frank, Rose, Anne, Ralph, and Dorothy.
He is survived by his wife, five children, two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on January 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church in Topeka.
