John G. Lucas, age 77, of Marion, Ohio, passed away at Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 12:40AM at the Marion General Hospital in Marion.

He was born on January 19, 1936 in Marion County, Ohio, to Virgil Verne and Helen (Gillis) Lucas, both are deceased.

He married Sandra Kay Smith on June 28, 1959 in Marion and she survives; also surviving is a son, Timothy (Stormee) Lucas of Marion; and two daughters, Tammy Sue (Jay) Messenger and Wendy Kaye (Allen) Imbody, both of Marion; also surviving are five grandchildren, Josiah Lee Stanforth, Valerie Kaye Stanforth, Levi Russell Messenger, John Jacob Lucas and Ethan Allen Lucas; and seven great grandchildren. John is also survived by two brothers, Robert (Janet) Lucas of Marion, Delmar (Linda) Lucas of Marion; and one sister, Marjorie Joanne (Richard) Porter of Greencamp, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Marie Lucas and three brothers, William Richard, Glenn Edward and Allen Dale Lucas, and a sister, Eleanor Mae Hinnamon.

John owned and operated Lucas Electric in Marion for many years, and before that he worked for Eaton Axle as a furnace operator. He was a graduate of Harding High School, Class of 1954.

He was a member of the Grand Prairie Baptist Church. And for hobbies John enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening, bowling, playing horse shoes and card games, working on 3D puzzles and crossword puzzles. He also liked to make doll houses out of wood, and collecting insulators and other antiques.

Funeral services for John G. Lucas will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, September 3, 2012 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Gene Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Grand Prairie Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at the Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
