Mrs. Grace N. Starcher, 71, Water St., Spencer, died Tuesday in the Gordon Memorial Hospital there following a short illness.

Born in Calhoun County, daughter of the late Preston and Elizabeth Carpenter Sampson, she was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Starcher.

Mrs Starcher was a member of the Stoney Point Methodist Church.

Survivors include nine daughters, Mrs Rhoda Griffin, Mrs Eleanor Goodrich, Mrs Ora Bowley, Mrs William Carpenter, Mrs Homer Starcher, Mrs Russell Smith and Edna Starcher, all of Spencer, Mrs Billy King, Blue Ridge, Summitt, Pa, and Mrs James Bowers, Greenville, Tenn., two sons, D.O. and Harold Starcher also of Greenville; two brothers, Will Sampson and Ferrell Sampson, both of Grantsville; one sister, Mrs Herbert Smith, Mt. Zion, W.Va.; 39 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Orland Reynolds will officiate the service Friday at 2 p.m. at the Deo Hardman Funeral Home at Spencer. Burial will be in the Gibson Cemetery, Altizer, Calhoun County.
