Edward H. Shermann was born in Ora Township on December 18, 1893, the son of Frank and Anna Birkner Shermann. His surviving siblings were John of Chicago; Raymond of Morris; ouis of Crescent City; Mrs. Emma Gaertner of Murphysboro; Mrs. William Alstat of Ava; Mrs. Arthur Manor of Campbell Hill; and Mrs. Ellsworth Bechlofft of Oak Lawn. Six brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

He married Elizabeth Rath in Murphysboro on May 5, 1915. His children included Mrs. Norma Lipe of Lenzburg and Mrs. Nadine Phoenix of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a son.

Mr. Shermann was a farmer. He was a member of the Eagles, Murphysboro Aerie 670, the Knights of Pythias, the Jackson County Farm Bureau, and St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill. He was a former Ora Township supervisor.

Edward Shermann was dead on arrival at Pinckneyville Community Hospital. He died at the age of 72 on Wednesday, June 8, 1966 from an apparent heart attack. His funeral service was held in St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill. Rev. A. H. Kaitshuk officiated. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
