Adella I. Sterling, 93, of Austin, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisc.
She was born in Faribault Oct. 23, 1908, to Henry and Mary (Van Berkom) Van Ryn.
She graduated from Bethlehem Academy in Faribault and attended teacher training school at Mankato State.
On Oct. 21, 1939, she married Roger J. Sterling.
She taught school at St. Augustine and substituted at Pacelli High School and Queen of Angels.
She was a member of St. Augustine Parish and was an active member of the Rosary Society and Legion of Mary.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy (Brad) Savage, Franklin, Wisc.; Diane Sterling (Jimmy Carter), San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Joanne (Leo) Hansen, Austin; four sisters-in-law, Maxine Sterling, Faribault; Irene Van Ryn, Rochester; Gladys Van Ryn, Kirkland, Wash.; Chris Handrahan, Austin; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her son, Peter; three sisters, Marion Van Ryn; Josephine Michael and Veronica Van Ryn; six brothers, Philip; George; Walter; John; August and Ralph Van Ryn.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002 with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service and also 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at the funeral home.
Service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery
