Josephine was the daughter of John C. Carnes and Rebecca Bair. She was born in Holmesville, Ohio. Her birth is recorded in the the Chedwato Ancestral Notes Supplement, Number 15, May 1964, pg. 178, listed as her parents Bible:

Josephine was with her family in the 1860 census residing in Concord Township, DeKalb County, Indiana where her father was a farmer. John died in the Civil War. Josephine was with her mother Rebecca and family, still on the family homestead in the 1870 census. They are living next to her Uncle Simon Bair. Her brothers are farming the homestead.

On 22 Jul 1871 she was married to Lewis Fisher in De Kalb County, Indiana by E. W. Erick.. They had two children Wall and Bert.
