Velma L. Frisbey, 89, Independence, died Tuesday May 18, 2004, at Rosewood Health Care Center at The Groves in Independence.

Mrs. Frisbey was born July 28, 1914, in LeBeck, Mo., to John and Myrtle (Anderson) Andes. She was a charter member of the East 39th Street Community of Christ church, she enjoyed serving others, whether it be working in the church kitchen or nursery. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Frisbey, in 1972, and three great-grandchildren.

Her survivors include three sons, Roger Frisbey, Buckner, Kenneth Frisbey and wife, Donna, Bates City, and Dennis Frisbey and wife, Susan, Independence; two daughters, Rose Etta Chinnery and husband, Robert, and Sharon Allison, both of Independence; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ivan Andes; sisters Fern and Audrie Andes; a sister-in-law, Mary Andes; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday The Groves Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Outreach International. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.speakschapel.com.
